Sanding cartridges

Our sanding cartridges, also known as sanding rolls, are ideal for rough grinding and polishing in tight operations. This abrasive presentation works excellently in narrow spaces that are difficult to access such as pipes and collars. Our cartridge rolls will be able to tackle the surfaces of tight corners, slots, angles and holes where most abrasive tools will not fit.

Sanding cartridges can be used in different presentations: conical, straight and semi-conical. The choice depends on the angle or shape of the surface to be sanded.

How do the sanding cartridges work?

The sanding cartridges attach to a compatible cartridge roll mandrel. This allows you to easily access small, hard-to-reach spaces for sanding and finishing. As the outermost abrasive layer wears away, the cloth backing frays to expose new abrasive layers for continuous cutting action. Sanding cartridges are useful on ferrous or non-ferrous metals and hardwoods.

Which material to choose in a sanding cartridge?

The choice of material in an abrasive will always depend on the operation we want to perform with it. However, our general recommendation for a sanding cartridge is aluminium oxide abrasive in a closed layer, which provides a fast cutting rate and has a long service life.

Aluminium oxide is a tough abrasive that has the characteristic of self-fracturing and exposing new cutting edges with which it will continue to work continuously. Other more common natural abrasives tend to deflate more quickly and therefore have a shorter life. It is because of this durability and speed of cutting that, in both woodworking and metalworking, aluminium oxide abrasive cartridges are often preferred by industrial professionals.

It is worth mentioning that a resin bonded abrasive is very resistant to high temperatures and pressures, so this is another factor to consider when choosing the ideal cartridge for the operation you wish to perform.

What type of grit to choose in a sanding cartridge?

The grit type on our sandpaper will generate a specific result as selected. Coarser grits are represented by smaller numbers and are for detail and hard surfaces. On the other hand, coarser grits have higher numbers and are often the best choice for fast sanding and large surfaces. For sanding cartridges we also have a wide range of grit types from small, such as 36 grit, to large, such as 320 grit.
